Not that type of hang.

Do you think Jesus was a dude? As in “Dude, want to get some beers and watch the game at my house?”

Do you think he could just be “one of the guys”? Or was he always on message/

We know he went to parties, but could he really let his hair down?

Could he just “shoot the breeze”?

Could he just stand with Hank Hill and Boomhaur? Yes. Waste time! Could he just sit with his friends and waste an hour or two doing nothing?

By all accounts, Jesus spent a lot of time "hanging out" with his Disciples. Long walks, boat rides, dinner... For three years these guys hiked up and down Judea, talking, arguing, preaching... They developed friendships, told stories, discussed issues. Jesus even gave nicknames to some of his friends. And don't forget the time he showed up to a party and turned water into wine.

Yeah, I'd say the man could hang. Would John and James "Sons of Thunder" Zebedee and Simon "The Rock" have given up their day jobs to follow this guy around if he couldn't hang? I think not.

Those men were already "on message" for the most part.

I guess my question is more towards the end of my post. During his ministry, do you think he could just be the carpenter's son? No message, no parables, just a few guys wasting a day knocking back a few. Or was he always "on"?

Like I said, all the evidence points to yes, he could hang.

Yes he was always on. He cried, he ate, he partied (in a good way)he cured, he forgave, he loved, but we have no record of him laughing.

I don't know about Jesus, but Judas could certainly hang.

If there was a good breeze, Judas could even swing a little.

Let's see, He was 30 before he started his formal ministry, and the three years of His ministry could be condensed into 50-60 pages. I'm sure a lot of those 33 years were spent, "jus' hangin'".

I think He could hang... but I also think He was always about His Father's business. The wedding in Cana is a perfect example. Why was Jesus there? John (2:1-2) tells us only that He and His disciples were invited. Sounds like hanging out to me.... and yet it was also the occasion of His first miracle.

It's one of the wonderful things about the Christian life. The working out of our faith happens in the midst of ordinary life. Jesus always had the big picture in mind... He was always seeking to minister, to whoever crossed His path. That doesn't mean He never sat back and enjoyed a meal with His disciples...

I have Christian friends that I "hang" with. Just because we don't have an agenda for our time doesn't mean that we aren't still living our faith. Our conversation is filled with references to things God is teaching us and sharing ways that we see Him at work in our lives. We don't gather for the purpose of discussing those things... they are a natural outflow of the bond we share in Christ. When you're madly in love, you can't help but speak of the object of your affection.
