A puzzlement

I have not seen it yet, and I will relatively soon, but from the reports and the reviews I do not know what to think. Is it faithful to scripture? Yes and no. The basic events in the movie are found in the Gospels, except that events sometimes only happened in one and not the others, for example, the removal of the guard’s ear. Also the appearance of Satan. Yes, the temptation did occur, but the texts have that happening a good deal of time before the Passion. Pilate, is kept as he appeared in the texts.

However, Pilate does not “jive” historically. H was a high ranking roman soldier with a very sadistic streak in him. He had sent many men to be crucified before. It was a standard Roman form of punishment for the enemies of Rome. And if he could not keep order in Judea, Rome would send someone who would.
It is, a puzzlement.
