Something needs to be done
Now, I know that there are extremes in the arguments regarding gun control. One extreme says that no one but exceptionally trained people with a complete knowledge of firearms should be able to touch a gun. The other extreme says that any 8 year old should be able to fire an AK-47 at bambi. And then there are the rest of us who take up positions between (hopefully) those two extremes.
It just seems to me that, in general, and the Wisconsin event in particular. A restructuring of the procedures needs to be done. A man with a 20 round automatic weapon was dear hunting. Now, if you know how to correctly use such a deadly weapon, ok, if you think you need to face a dear whose mode of defense is “scampering” or “run away!!! Run away” (that rabbit is a killer) with that much firepower, no problem, it’s what the law allows.
But someone dropped the ball BIG TIME when they let this guy have that gun.
Now, I am not advocating draconian measures. But it seems to me that if we have a Homeland Security Department, that we need to tighten the procedures so make sure that the mentally challenged or overly stressed cannot gain access to these weapons.
He took out 6 people, only one of which was armed (last I read) without any remorse.
I don’t know, maybe a decent Homeland Security Background check for auto-weapons, special permit for them, mental evaluation, something to make sure the person you are giving the gun to know what to do with it and what not to do.
