There are a few current blogs on this subject, so instead of commenting, I will just write an entry.
My wife is a conservative Republican. Right to Life all the way. Her family is the same. My parents are Democrat, well my father was until he passed. I am more of a moderate, yes there are still a few of us around. Now here is the most amazing part!
WE GET ALONG !!!
In fact my wife and I get along so well, we have three children. Now, from the vitriol spouting from both Dems and Reps. you may ask how we do it. Discussion.
There are things that Bush does that she does not quite like, And she does see that the Democrats have valid points as well. Not enough to vote Democratic, but enough for us to have a discussion. And I can see some benefit or at least the rationale in a few of Bush’s positions. Not enough to vote Republican. Will she ever not be a Republican, oh no. Nor I become a Republican.
But still we talk, discuss, agree, agree to disagree. It’s possible. It takes a desire to see the other person as an individual with valid points, a little work, understanding and a conscious effort not to resort to rhetoric or condescension.
It is a puzzlement, and an opportunity.
